We're Going To Have a BABY!!!--How We Found Out

Nic and I found out we are going to be parents around 5:30 a.m. on November 22nd. It is a morning I will never forget.

It took us a little longer to get to this point than we expected. After lots and lots of discussion, I stopped taking the pill in March of 2012. I thought it would be easy. Get off birth control, a few months later, get pregnant. Not so much. Unfortunately, my body took almost a full year to regulate its cycles after being off the pill. When it did finally adjust, I was having 35-40 day cycles, which made getting pregnant a challenge. Fast forward to August 2013. I still had not become pregnant, so my doctor suggested that Nic and I have some tests done to make sure there were no complications we were unaware of. We had our tests done in September, and our results were normal. This was of course great news, but it did not provide me with any answers as to why we were not getting pregnant. We decided to relax for awhile and if I still wasn't pregnant by January 2014, we would see a specialist.

The week before Thanksgiving was a very busy one for us because were preparing to go to Tortola for a nice vacation just the two of us. On Wednesday, November 20th, I was at work and suddenly felt very nauseated from drinking my coffee. I thought this was pretty weird since I drink coffee everyday and I LOVE coffee so much. The same thing happened to me the next day. I took about two sips of my coffee and had to throw it away. In the back of my mind I was thinking I may be pregnant, but I didn't want to get my hopes up only to be disappointed like I had been so many times in the past. That Thursday night, I told Nic about my coffee predicament and we both agreed that I should probably take a pregnancy test. Our flight was scheduled that Friday night at midnight, and I needed to know if I could have a drink on the plane! Since I had to wait until the next morning to take the test, I decided to have a beer just in case it would be my last for quite some time. ;)

Friday morning, I woke up and immediately took the test. A faint line appeared almost right away. I was SO excited that I ran into our bedroom right away and jumped on the bed to tell Nic. He asked if it was positive and I said it was. We hugged and talked about how we just couldn't believe it. I was so happy that whole day I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. Nic and I texted all day about how happy we were and how surreal it felt. After trying for over a year and a half, we finally got our baby!

Because we were going out of the country that night, I called my doctor that day. She told me it was just fine to go to Tortola, but to make sure I didn't dive, zip-line, or surf. No problem...this was going to be a relaxing vacation anyway. It was so nice to have that time together. We were able to soak up paradise while soaking up our great news at the same time. It was so cool to have that little secret between just the two of us for a short time. We both decided that we wanted to tell our parents the good news in person, and since we live in Houston, and both sets of parents live in Lousiana, we had to keep it a secret for a little while longer.

Here are a few pics from our wonderful trip!
